Aftab Ahmed Khan is a formerIndian Police Serviceofficer, turned politician from Mumbai,India, noted for his encounter killings of gangsters from the Mumbai organized crime syndicates.An officer of the Indian Police Service, Khan was a Deputy Inspector General of Police in Maharashtra state in the 1980s. He shot into fame with the shootout at the Lokhandwala Complex, Andheri, in which seven gangsters including Maya Dolas and Dilip Buwawere killed in 1991.

He was a gutsy and tough IPS officer who boldly led from the front with blazing guns and flashing fists. In no time, he built up a fearful reputation for himself. First by decimating Mumbai’s underworld gangs; then by chasing the Khalistani terrorists who tried to set up base here back to Punjab; and, finally, by taking the fight against the Naxalites into the Nagpur jungles.

He is mostly reputed for Lokhanwala shootout, which created great fear among gangsters and terrorists the then time. The shootout, which took place on November 16,1991, made Khan one of the city’s most recognised police officers.

In the Bollywood blockbuster.  Shootout At Lokhandwala famous Bollywood actor Mr. Sanjay Dutt plays the role of Mr. Khan , whereas Mr. Khan also makes his movie debut — he plays S Ramamurthy, his former boss and the then police commissioner, in this film.

He will always be remembered as one of the finest cop of India. We salute him.
